The receiver is the reservoir for excess liquefied refrigerant that is not being used in the system. Unless other conditions prevent it, the receiver should have sufficient capacity to hold the total amount of refrigerant in the system. Liquid receivers are most commonly made of drawn steel shells welded together to provide maximum strength.
